It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert two millstones Argent in fess, flanked on central chief by a lion passant Or armed and tongued Gules, and on base by a flax flower Argent seeded Azure. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "ESCARIZ - S. MAMEDE".
Meaning:
The lion is an attribute of Saint Mammes of Caesarea, name giver and local patron saint of the commune. The flower is alluding to the production of linen, a very important business line in the whole municipality. The millstones are alluding to local (former) mills.

Escariz (São Mamede), also called São Mamede de Escariz, was one of the 37 communes of Municipality affected by the 2013 changes. It had 388 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 3,27 km².

Shield Argent a cross calvary Sable, flanked on chief by a mitre Vert adorned Or with scarves Vert, at dexter by a chestnut twig Vert fruited Gules and at sinister a grape bunch Purpure leafed Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "ESCARIZ - S. MARTINHO".
Meaning:
The mitre is an attribute of St. Martin, the local patron saint.
