I received an image of the flag from the town clerk. I then asked the
Florence Pioneer Museum for information on the flag, and received an image of an
article dated 29 June 1972, when the contest winners were announced:
The
flag of Florence was adopted after a flag contest sponsored by Florence Elks
Lodge No. 611 as part of the Florence Centennial Celebration. The winner, who
received $100 for the design, was Jack Bennett of Penrose. The colors, red,
blue, gold, and white, are used in (probably not anymore) the Florence High
School flag, as well as that of Colorado and the United States. The letter "F"
is the monogram of Florence and embodies the design of the state flag within it.
