Per Wikipedia: "William T. Anderson (c. 1840 - October 26, 1864), known by the nickname "Bloody Bill" Anderson, was a soldier [officer] who was one of the deadliest and most notorious Confederate guerilla leaders in the American Civil War. .... Digital reconstruction of the flag found on Anderson's body, based on description from the newspaper "Daily Alta California", Volume 16, Number 5392, 8 December 1864: "The rebel flag found on Anderson's person was then shown the command. The flag is a small affair, made of fine silk, and the corner piece containing seven silver stars. On one side was -written in ink: " Presented to W. T. Anderson, by his friend, A. R. T.," and on the other side: "Do not let this be contaminated by Federal hands."
