Seventh-grade students at Limestone Community School started a flag contest
in November 2021 and developed a flag that was adopted in June 2022 by the town
of Limestone, Maine.

A Twitter post also
explains the flag from the Maine Hometown Flag Project:

explains that the green represents fields, forests, and the natural environment
of the Pine Tree state. The gold represents grain and hay. The brown represents
potatoes and dirt/earth. It is an unusual color on flags and makes it distinct.
