Description of the flag

This flag was designed in the early months of 2003 by Thomas Zahler of Thom Zahler Art Studios in Timberlake, Ohio. In the Bicentennial Parade in Chillicothe on March 1, 2003, the new flag was carried upside down by accident, as reported by flag expert John Purcell. The flag was designed to be double sided, so that whether seen from front or back, the blue field should appear on the viewer's left.

Red, white and blue remind us of our national and state flags. The center circle shows the official seal of Cuyahoga County. This seal centers on the initials "CC" and on "1808," the date Cuyahoga County was established. The county was named after the Cuyahoga River and the Native American word for "crooked" or "winding stream."
