Daytona State College

Daytona State College is a public, state higher education institution located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The school was established in 1957 as a junior or community college (Daytona Beach Junior College), offering associate's degrees to its students. The name was changed to Daytona Beach Community College in 1971. In 2006, the school became a four-year college when it offered its first bachelor's degree program, and its name was changed to Daytona State College in 2008. The school's colors are a light blue and white and its sports teams are known as the Falcons.

Daytona State College has an award and recognition program for its faculty and staff known as the Victory Flag. "The Falcon Victory Flag program recognizes and honors accomplishments by Daytona State departments, groups, clubs, or teams that highlight the college." As part of the award and recognition, the honored groups are awarded an actual Victory Flag to be flown "for a period of time." A news article on the college's website (www.daytonastate.edu/photoessay/2013Augvictoryflag.html) includes numerous photos of the Victory Flag itself. Of note, the 11th photograph in the series shows one of the groups being honored, standing in front of a flagpole bearing the Victory Flag... which has been hoisted upside-down!

Based on the photographs, the Falcon Victory Flag at Daytona State College is a light blue and white checkered flag featuring the college's seal in the center. Solid light blue bars along the top and bottom edges of the flag bear the inscriptions "VICTORY FLAG" and "EXEMPLARY ACHIEVEMENT" at the top and bottom of the flag, respectively. I am unsure what relationship this flag design has to the college's overall flag since I've been unable (as yet) to find a photo of the college flag. I suspect, however, that the checkered pattern on the flag can probably be traced to the college's proximity to Daytona International Speedway, playing on auto racing's checkered flag for victory, but changing the colors to the school's light blue and white.
