The American Yacht Club, New York, www.americanyc.org, is listed in Lloyd's Register of American Yachts for 1903-4, as incorporated in 1883. The club, was founded as a steam yacht club, and it took three years before the first sailing yacht (with steam), joined. It has since become a sailing yacht club.
In 1888 the club house was opened, at which occasion the club flag was raised. A photograph in their gallery shows the club house in 1950 with the flag flying; it shows the club flag has the same design as the burgee.
The club's burgee is depicted as a triangular blue burgee, ca. 5:9, with a red border, and with on the blue a white square cross formy. The club also appears in the American Yacht List for 1891, where the officers flags are listed as well.
