About Parnaíba and Its Flag

Parnaíba (135,000 inhabitants) is a city in the north of Piauí, Brazil. It is the second biggest city in the state. The biggest is Teresina, the state capital. Parnaíba is located in the famous Parnaíba River Delta, formed by 70 islands. It is a very beautiful place. The flag, created by Mr. Christino Melo, a talented local artist, shows 2 white stripes which stand for the white sands on the banks of the Igaraçu River, one of the Parnaiba River tributaries. The city was founded on its banks. The white star stands for the first village founded in that place, called Testa Branca. The blue stripe stands for the Igaraçu River. The city coat of arms is placed in the upper hoist corner.
