The municipality of Francisco Beltrão (91,093 inhabitants in 2019; 73,526 ha)
is located 500 km south-west of Curitiba.
The flag of Francisco Beltrão
is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 226 promulgated on 16 December 1966.
Article 1.
Description - Divided in eight yellow trapezoidal geometric
figures by eight white stripes superimposed with blue stripes, placed two by two
in horizontal and vertical dimensions, in bend and in bend sinister, starting
from a central white rectangle charged with the coat of arms.
Rationale
and symbolism - In compliance with the Portuguese heraldic tradition, of which
we inherited canons and rules, municipal flags shall be divided in eight parts,
charged in the center with the town's coat of arms in heraldic colors, the
colors being the same as those of the shield's field.
The coat of arms in the
flag's center symbolizes the municipal government while the rectangle that
inscribes it represents the town proper as the seat of the municipality. The
stripes symbolize municipal power (municipality's government) spreading to all
the parts of the territory, while the eight trapezoidal geometric figures
represent the rural properties existing on the municipal territory.

The coat of arms of Francisco Beltrão is
prescribed by Municipal Law No. 224 promulgated on 16 December 1966.
Article 1.
Description - A Samnite shield, surmounted by an eight-towered
mural crown argent. On a field azure in chief a five-pointed star or in base
wavy argent and azure a mallard argent. The shield supported dexter by a maize
plant and sinister by a bean plant all proper tied in base superimposed by a
scroll azure inscribed in letters argent with the toponym "FRANCISCO BELTRÂO".
Article 2.
Symbolic - The Samnite shield used to represent the arms of
Francisco Beltrão was the first style of shield introduced to Portugal by French
influence, evoking the Latin race, colonist and main builder of the nation. The
mural crown that surmounts it, argent with eight towers, only five of them
visible in perspective view, identifies a domains' coat of arms and classifies a
2nd rank town, that is the seat of a county.
Azure (blue) is a symbol of
justice, perseverance, zeal and loyalty, which are attributes of people
struggling for the increase of the town. The star or symbolizes CANGO (Colônia
Agrícola General Osório), the settlement in the municipality of Francisco
Beltrão where Engineer Dr. Francisco Gutierrez Beltrão, Director of the West
Department, initiated the establishment of the town that would be named for him.
Or is the heraldic symbol of force, faith, wealth, nobleness and prosperity,
which are attributes of the fearless colonists of the rural hinterland of
South-Western Paraná.
The shield's base evokes Mallards' River and the
primitive toponym "Marrecas" (Mallards, making the arms canting and recalling
the nickname "marrecoanos" given to the town's inhabitants). Argent is the
heraldic symbol of friendship, integrity, purity, and hospitality, which are
people's attributes.
The maize and bean plants recall the main products of
the generous and fertile soil, which are the base of municipal income.
The
scroll perennializes the tribute to the town's founder.
