About the Flag

The municipality of Fazenda Rio Grande (100,209 inhabitants in 2019; 11,668 ha) is located 40 km south of Curitiba.

Fazenda Rio Grande emerged around the two estates ("fazenda") of Capocu and Rio Grande / Grande Rio, established on the bank of river Iguaçu in the 16th century and 1800, respectively. The settlements that developed around the two estates and other neighboring settlements formed the municipality of Mandirituba, established on 25 July 1960, separating from São José dos Pinhais. Population increase in Greater Curitiba following the abandon of coffee cultivation in North Paraná prompted the establishment of the district of Fazenda Rio Grande by State Law No. 7,521 promulgated on 17 November 1981. The municipality of Fazenda Rio Grande was established by State Law No. 9,213 promulgated on 26 January 1990 and inaugurated on 12 April 1991.

The flag and arms of Fazenda Rio Grande are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 195 promulgated on 26 May 1999.

Article 2.
The features of the flag of the municipality shall obey the following rules.
I. Width, 14 units.
II. Length, 20 units.
III. The blue flag shall be divided by a white stripe of 7 units in width, wavy and starting from the upper left part between the 1st and 7th units and ending in the lower right part, between the 8.5th and the 11.5th units.

Article 3.
The coat of arms shall obey the following rules.
I. In the lower part, a yellow scroll, a color representing light and knowledge, inscribed in black, left "26.01" and right "1990", surrounding the writing "FAZENDA RIO GRANDE", representing the date of creation of the municipality.
II. The shield shall be surmounted by a white mural crown with eight towers, only five of them visible in perspective view, which classifies a 2nd rank town, seat of a county.
III. Inside, three cogwheels argent (silver), a color symbolizing peace, friendship and work, representing industrial manpower, emphasizing that a small force can move a bigger one, which, in turn, can move an even bigger one.
IV. On top, the Southern Cross or, symbolizing people's union and force.
V. Stylized Brazilian pines vert (green) support the shield, recalling the characteristics of Brazil's South Region as a whole, and a fazenda's gate symbolizing protection granted by the municipality.
VI. A transversal blue stripe, a color symbolizing justice, clarity and loyalty, river, representing the source of river Iguaçu in the municipality.

Article 4.
The flag's blue color represents justice and loyalty, while the white stripe characterizes the fluidity of a flowing river, symbolizing the town's dynamic.

This Law abrogates the early municipal symbols that were prescribed by Municipal Law No. 79 promulgated on 8 August 1995.

Article 3.
The municipal flag shall have the following design.
Horizontally divided in 13 parallel stripes of equal width, in turn six green and 7 red stripes, starting on top with a red stripe.
