The municipality of Canudos do Vale (1,716 inhabitants in 2019; 8,200 ha) is
located 150 km north of Porto Alegre.

The flag of Canudos do Vale is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 94.01
promulgated on 18 February 2002.
Article 1.
The flag of the
municipality of Canudos do Vale shall have for colors green, white and red and
be composed of three panels, inspired by the format and the colors of the flags
of Rio Grande do Sul, Italy and Portugal, representing:
a) Red (gules), the
symbol of dedication, patriotic love, audacity, intrepidity, courage and
valiance.
b) White, the symbol of peace, friendship, integration, work and
community harmony.
c) Green (vert), the symbol of honor, civility, courtesy,
glee, abundance and hope; green also represents the mountains and the greening
fields promising profuse harvests.
Article 2.
The flag shall obey the
following rules.
I. The flag is composed of three panels: green, white and
red in usual shades.
II. The flag's width shall be of 14 units.
III. The
flag's length shall be of 20 units.
IV. The coat of arms shall be of 7 units
in width, leaving 3 units in the upper part and 3 units in the lower part. Its
radius is 3.5 units.
V. The flag shall have two horizontal parts: a red part
measuring 20 units in length and 7 units in width, placed in the upper part, and
a green part in the lower part, of the same dimensions, the two parts forming
two halves.
VI. The flag shall be charged in the center with a white circle
featuring the municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Canudos do Vale is prescribed
by Municipal Law No. 93.01 promulgated on 18 February 2002.
Article 1.
Classical Flemish-Iberian shield surmounted by a mural crown or with six towers,
four visible.
In base (bottom) a field vert (green) symbolizing the
geography, fields and mountains. On this field, the symbol of food industry and
a bovine cattle, representing milk cattle-breeding. Dexter, a pork and two
birds, representing genetic breeding.
In the center, two stylized brooks,
Irerê dexter and Forquetinha sinister vertically watering a typical landscape.
In the dexter center on a green field the parish church of Canudos do Vale. On
top on a blue field a golden handshake representing union. Left, the symbol of
greatness, a sun or also representing Mercosul. As supporters of the shield,
plants proper, dexter (tobacco) and sinister (maize). Beneath the shield a
scroll gules (red) containing in white the toponym 'CANUDOS DO VALE' and dates
'188O' and '16/04.1996'. In base, the municipality's motto, 'UNIÃO – TRABALHO –
HOSPITALIDADE'.
The coat of arms described above has the following
symbolic interpretation:
a) The Flemish-Iberian classic shield, adopted to
represent the arms of Capão Bonito do Sul, originates from Germany and was first
introduced to Spain during the struggle against the Moors, being subsequently
adopted in Portugal, especially to represent coat of arms of domains, and
eventually by Brazilian heraldry to evoke the colonizing race and main builder
of our nation.
b) The Portuguese crown surmounting the shield is the
universal symbol of coat of arms of domains; golden (or) with six towers, four
visible in perspective, it classifies the town as of third rank or municipal
seat. c) Or (gold) is a symbol of royalty, celebrity, splendor, command, force,
and wealth.
d) In the shield's center is represented the parish church of
Canudos do Vale, emphasizing the religious spirit of the whole community and of
all races, as well as the significance of the historical and cultural heritage.
e) Prominent in the shield is water and the main rivers watering the
municipality, Ireré, aka Pinheirinho, and Forquetinha that vertically waters the
local landscape, symbolizing the significance of ecology and freshwater for the
whole mankind.
f) The green (vert) base symbolizes geography, fields and
plains. Food industry is also represented to highlight the potential increase of
the municipal income due to this productive industry. Above, the symbol of
cattle-breeding and dairy industry. Dexter a pig to symbolize this industry and
the municipality's rural origin, and two birds to represent aviculture.
g)
Green (vert) is the symbol of honor, civility, courtesy, glee, abundance and
hope; green also represents mountains and greening fields promising profuse
harvests.
h) In upper sinister part is represented union, solidarity,
friendship and persistence of the community during the political emancipation,
through a golden handshake on a blue field. Beside is represented the symbol of
greatness, a sun, also a symbol of sovereignty. It also represents the Platine
nations [Argentina and Uruguay] that border Brazil.
i) The outer ornaments
proper represent two main products of the generous and fertile soil, maize and
tobacco
j) On a red (gules) scroll in white letters the identifying toponym
"CANUDOS DO VALE" surrounded by the dates "1880", beginning of colonization, and
"16/04/1996", the date of creation and political emancipation. On the scroll is
also inscribed the motto that best identifies and characterizes the spirit and
skills of the citizens of Canudos do Vale, "UNIÃO - TRABALHO – HOSPITALIDADE".
