The flag and arms of Poço das Antas are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 67
promulgated on 19 April 1990.
Article 6.
The municipal flag of Poço
das Antas, designed by Júlio Antônio Martinez Marchena, is divided into three
parts, one of them forming a transversal stripe crossing the flag's center. The
flag of Poço das Antas expresses the glee, the dynamism, the love and courage of
a settlement with a small area but a great heart.
Blue represents the sky,
unknown and scaring for the discoverers, as for those in rockets and spatial
vessels. Red represents blood as everyone's life and the blood shed by our
ancestors to preserve the national sovereignty. Green represents hope and the
natural environment, without which the world will die by lack of oxygen (the
world's lung).
§1. The flag's style, composition and coloring obey the
international norms of heraldry. In the flag's center, on two parallel diagonal
axes is placed the coat of arms, symbol of the municipal government.
Article 7.
In compliance with heraldic rules, the municipal flag shall have
for official dimensions those adopted for the national flag, 14 units in width
on 20 units in length.
Article 19.
The municipal coat of arms of Poço
das Antas is based on the international norms of heraldry. It was researched and
designed by Júlio Antônio Martinez Marchena.
The shield shall be
heart-shaped, to look like a heart.
It features in upper part a golden yellow
rising sun, symbol of universal light.
Below the sun is featured a cross, as
a symbol of the Christian religion, which is very strong in Poço das Antes.
The shield is outlined in gray, which represents the mineral kingdom.
Blue on
the shield represents Brazil's sky.
The shield is divided in three parts. The
first part feature trees, which represent the lungs of the ecological
environment and the plant kingdom; the second part features a tapir ["anta"],
which represents the animal kingdom and is the municipality's symbol, with a
chain of hills that embellishes the municipality. In the base of this part are
represented the watercourses and their characteristic plants.
The third part
has a yellow background, representing loyalty to the legally established
government, and two united hands with the motto "UNIDOS VENCEREMOS" [United We
Shall Win].
