The flag and arms of Unićo da Serra are prescribed by Municipal Law No. 74
promulgated on 10 June 1994.
Article 2.
The flag shall have for
central elements the coat of arms, whose heraldic meaning is described in
Article 4 of this Law. Three green, red and blue stripes cross it, running from
the lower left canton to the upper right canton, without interfering with the
central elements. Green and red represents the Italian colonization, which was
significant and decisive in the region, while blue represents the vastness of
the ocean, which carried the creams and hopes of the first colonists heading to
the New World, being also the connection between the continents. The arrangement
of the stripes indicates the municipality's dynamism and ascending trajectory,
of its economy and culture, with the firm willingness to obtain ever increasing
achievements.
Article 4.
The coat of arms of Unićo de Serra has the
following meaning.
Beneath the shield, in red, appears date "20.03.92", the
municipality's date of emancipation. The shield is surrounded by a wavy stripe
whose colors, red, green and white, represent Italian colonization in the
region. On the sides of this stripe appear maize plants symbolizing the very
strong agriculture, a vital source of income for the region. Within the shield,
the central element is the St. Louis Chapel, the municipality's heart, near
which the seat of Unićo de Serra was established. The chapel also represents
popular faith and dedication to religion. On the chapel's right appear figs,
symbolizing the oldest and most traditional fruit cultivation in the region. On
the chapel's left is a waterfall that highlights the beauty of the natural
environment. In the background, heights characteristic of the region and a
rising sun, whose rays bring life, energy and light, alluding to the birth of a
new municipality. The shield surmounted, according to the principles of heraldry
by a golden mural crown with three towers, which represent Oeste on the left,
Pulador on the right, the main tower symbolizing the union of the two
settlements to form Unićo da Serra, the seat with open gate symbolizing
progress.
