The municipality of Celso Ramos (2,768 inhabitants in 2016; 20,741 ha) is
located on the border with Rio Grande do Sul, 350 km west of Florianópolis.
Celso Ramos was settled in 1934, as Acampamento (Camp) by Ernesto Comim,
Ricieri Comim, Francisco Grassi, João Ambrósio, Máximo Ambrósio, Almarino Suppi,
and Angelo Primo Grassi. After the blessing of the chapel dedicated to Apostle
St. Paul on 25 January 1936, the colony was renamed to São Paulo. Organized
colonization started the same year.
The district of Celso Ramos was
established, within Lages, by Law No. 145 promulgated on 14 December 1957, to be
transferred to the newly established municipality of Anita Garibaldi in 1961.
The municipality of Celso Ramos was established by State Law No. 7,585
promulgated on 26 April 1989 and inaugurated on 1 January 1990.
The
municipality's namesake, Celso Ramos (1897-1996) was Governor of Santa Catarina
from 1961 to 1966 and Senator from 1967 to 1975. Ramos was one of the founders
of Partido Social Democrático (PSD).

The flag of Celso Ramos is divided in red, white, celestial blue and red
sectors fanning from the upper left corner, charged in the center with the
municipal coat of arms.

The coat of arms of Celso Ramos was designed by public servant Ademar
Otávio de Mattia.
The brick wall surmounting the shield represents the onset
of immigration, recalling the building of the first houses.
Maize and wheat
were the main crops developed by the early settlers.
The tractor symbolizes
agriculture's strong contribution to the development of the municipality.
Cattle symbolizes another important source of income, cattle-breeding.
The
cogwheels symbolize small industries established in the municipality, which
generate employment and income.
The star represents the natural resources and
fertile plots watered by rivers Canoas and Pelotas.
The writing "UNIÃO DO
POVO DE CELSO RAMOS" highlights the permanent union and struggle for the
community's welfare.
