The municipality of Frei Rogiéro (2,480 inhabitants in 2010; 15,785 ha) is located 350 km west of Florianópolis.

The flag and arms of Frei Rogério are prescribed by Municpal Law No. 22
promulgated on 9 April 1997.
Article 2.
The flag, represented on a
white rectangle in proportions 1.80 m in length on 1.20 m in width, shall be
composed of a coat of arms, a stripe and text, according to the following
descriptions.
I - Coat of arms. Centered on a point distant of 0.03 m from
the left border and 0.03 m from the upper border, in width 0.05 m.
II -
Stripes. A red main stripe, in width 0.04 m, the upper border tangent to the
lower left canton and the lower border tangent to the upper right canton: the
main stripe surrounded by two lateral green stripes in proportions 0.04 m.
III - Centered on the red stripe, the text "Frei Rogiéro" in white, in width
0.02 m.
Article 3.
The coat of arms representative of the municipality
of Frei Rogério shall be composed of the following basic elements.
I - A gray
shield surmounted by a wall representing political and administrative autonomy.
II - A field
a) Cyan, charged with a yellow sun in the upper part; under the
sun, a white cross surrounded by twelve rays, three in each quadrant,
representing the religious feeling of Friar Rogério, the municipality's
namesake.
b) In the lower part, 12 green branches arranged symmetrically,
representing the agricultural potential and the natural environment; in front of
the branches, from left to right, a cherry flower, an oxen, a garlic head, a
chicken and an apple; these symbols surmounted by two centered bean pods. With
the branches, each of these symbols represents a source of income for the
municipality: the oxen and the chicken represent animal breeding, the garlic
head and the bean pods represent agriculture, the apple represents arboriculture
and the cherry flower represents Japanese colonization and tourism potential.
III- A red scroll with pointed ends and two outlines, forming three areas: in
the center, with the text "Frei Rogério", in white; on the sides, also in white,
the text "20.07" and "1995", representing the date of emancipation.

The municipality's namesake, Friar
(Portuguese, "Frei") Rogério Neuhaus (1863-1934), was a German Franciscan
father. He settled in the area in 1904, being soon known as the Apostle of
Curitibanos, During the Contestado War (1912-1916), he offered mediation between
the government and the rebels.
