The Village of New Sarepta (population: 401) is originally named after German immigrants from Sarepta, Russia on the Volga River.
The English-born cartoonist, Yardley Jones, is a famous local resident who designed and added his signature to a portion of the municipal flag. He was also the inspiration for the community to declare itself as the "Cartoon Capital of Canada".
Also on the municipal flag is the Village's centennial logo which features a church, a bushel of wheat, a cow and an oil derrick.
