Roxton Pond is a municipality in MRC de La Haute-Yamaska. The municipality of
Roxton Point (3,809 inhabitants in 2016; 10,340 ha) is located 15 km north-west
of Granby, on the north-west shore of Lake Roxton.
Roxton Pond, first
settled in 134 by Abram Sanborn, was incorporated, as a parish, in 1875.
Originally known as South Roxton, the village was constituted of a few farms, a
post office and a mission managed by the Church of England. This changed with
the establishment of the South Eastern Railway in 1879; Mr. Doe split in 1882
part of its estate into plots. In 1886, water from the lake was already used to
power two sawmills, a flour mill and a manufacture of worker's tools. At the end
of the 19th century, Roxton Pond was among Canada's main centers of production
of such tools. In 1907, the Stanley Rule & Level company industrialized the
production of carpenter's tools. Closed in 1984, the factory employed up to 300
workers.

The pine branches represent the pioneer's first trade, production of pine
shingles. The lake represents the source of energy that supplies power to the
village's industry. Devil's Island recalls the legend of Lake Roxton. The
fleur-de-lis symbolizes the pioneers of French origin. The carnations
symbolize people of British origin. The sugar bush recalls a plant industry
still prominent in Roxton Pond.
The French motto reads "To Believe is Our
Strength", highlighting the faith of the different Christian confessions.
Municipal logo is also attached.
The logo is composed of a white goose
superimposed to the green initials of the municipality, "RP". The goose and
its pure white color symbolize liberty and the municipality's take-off. Green
symbolizes health, environment and nature. Golden orange symbolizes wealth and
fluency aspired for the population.
The whole logo recalls geese stepping
on Lake Roxton during their migration.
The legend recalls that the
village's youth used to dance on Saturday night near the lake, lit by oil
lamps. Gorgeous Antoinette, who enjoyed luring young men, disappeared on a
summer evening with an unknown handsome man. Thunder broke and a reddish light
emerged from a rock located on the island and swiftly disappeared, while a
scream was heard. Antoinette was found dead near the devil's footprints carved
in the rock.
