This flag is prescribed by a Canadian government body, Fisheries and Oceans Canada
An orange flag indicates a commercial or recreational fishing vessel is under contract by Fisheries and Oceans Canada to conduct a test fishery for research purposes.
First Nations may also operate test fisheries, authorized by the Department, using both small vessels and commercial-style vessels. Recreational boaters should remain alert in order to avoid collision with nets.
An Orange field, black (or dark blue?) letters for the words 'TEST FISHING
VESSEL' placed above each other and 'FISHERIES AND OCEANS' in an arc above
these.
