The flag of Rüti bei Büren is canting, the two items being Reuthauen. I've found the word Haue as being a grubber (in French hoyau) but I have no idea what Reut means.
Pascal Gross, 11 January 2002

Reuten = a verb denoting clearing the ground of something, to prepare for cultivation or: lifting potatoes. This looks like two axes, used for getting tree-roots out. Grubber is possibly the correct word, or grubbing-axe or grubbing-hoe.
Jarig Bakker, 11 January 2002

[Jarig Bakker is correct. "Reuten" meant pulling out something with the roots. Seemingly the words "reuten" and the English "root" have the same – roots.]
