The animal on the flag of Gams is a chamois (German: Gämse; local dialect: Gams). It is wrong canting flag as the name of the commune comes not from the chamois but from old Romansh Campesias (in Rheto-Romansh champ [de] beschas, in German Schafweide), which means "field of sheep".
