On 1 January 2014 the new commune of Bettmeralp was formed by the merger of Betten and Martisberg (see below). It adopted the old emblem of Betten.
Tierced per mantle, Or a Fish sautant Azure above a base wavy Azure, in
dexter Gules issuant from a base invected a Tree Vert trunked Proper, in sinister
Azure issuant from a base invected a Chapel Argent roofed, doored and windowed
Sable.

This must refer to St. Martin (the place name is derived from it, right?) and
his cutting of his cloth in two to share it with a beggar.
