This photo [http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Regional_flags_of_Chile_in_the_National_Congress.jpg] shows a display of all 13 regional flags in use in 2008, at the very official setting of the National Congress of Chile building. The 4th from the right is the flag of La Araucan a regi n IX (in English, Araucania), and it is white, not the also reported horizontal tricolor of blue, white, and red, although using the same CoA.

I overlooked that it also shows a single trailing "A," set in black serifless capitals, at the end of a line of text in black letters, under the emblem. From it, I conjecture that it reads "REGI N DE LA AURACAN A."

This flag appears in a Chilean government website with regard to the creation of a new flag for this region, to replace the existing one. It is a proposal.
