Translated from municipal web site:
"Used as the current symbol of the municipality, the flag shows colours representing the historical nature and the feelings of the people:
- Green: Hope and rich natural environment of La Florida;
- Yellow: Cultural light, knowledge and fraternity;
- White: Purity, generous heart and values of the villagers;
The "floripundia" flower is the municipal flower.
The red lozenge represents geometrical construction and balance and the dimensions of the economical, political, environmental, cultural... development.
The vertical stripes represents equality in human and institutional relationships.
The flag was designed by Néstor Aurelio Muñoz."
The genus Brugmansia (Family Solanaceae) encompasses six species native from subtropical South America. As opposed to the related Datura species, the Brugmansia are woody perennials. B. sanguinea  (Ruiz & Pav.) D. Don, known as the red angel's trumpet, is found in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. Very toxic, like Datura, Brugmansia was used as a shamanic and cosmologic plant by several South American native peoples.
