A fourth set of proposals added small white stripes between the black, red and golden stripes, like on the modern Gambian flag. Basically the flags are black-red-gold, the white stripes remind on the former national flag being black-white-red. This was considered by Ritter to be a compromise in order to end the struggles about the flag colours (German: Flaggenstreit)

This added a golden shield, fimbriated white, in the centre with a black eagle holding a white scroll with the inscription Einigkeit Recht Freiheit, i.e. Unity Justice Freedom (see left image above). This motto stems from the third stanza of the German national anthem, which is also now the national anthem - Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit für das deutsche Vaterland. The original text of Ritter displays a flag with slightly different arms, the background colour of th shield is white and fimbriation and scrolls are golden (Y+) (see right image above).
