Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. The lower half is divided per pale. Above in a golden (= yellow) field is a black eagle, armed and tongued red. Below right is a red field divided by a blue bend sinister containing golden (= yellow) initials "SPQR". Below left in a red field is a pair of golden keys, crossed per saltire.
Meaning:
Weil was founded by the Staufen kin as a city in 1241. Shortly after the Interregnum the city gained the rank of Imperial City. Hence all seals from 1272 until the 18th century display the imperial eagle. Besides the shield with the imperial eagle in 1534 two shields were added. One shows the arms of the city of Rome, stressing that the city is of Roman origin. The crossed keys are the attribute of St. Peter, patron saint of the city. In the 19th century the three shields were assembled in one shield.
