Meaning:
Dieburg gained city rights in 1277. All seals of the city since 1428 have displayed the patron saint of Mainz, St Martin. Dieburg belonged to the Archbishopric of Mainz from 1294-1802. The only seal that did not display St. Martin dates from the 18th century and displays a "D" surrounded by three stars. The present arms were based on the old seals and approved in 1952.
