Shield Argent, three holly leaves Vert ordered 1:2.
Meaning:
Uelsen was known for its vehmic court since the 13th century. In 1312 the Counts of Bentheim acquired the right of jurisdiction and in 1651 the counts became the manorial lords of Uelsen. Since then a greater seal and a minor seal appeared, stressing the existence of municipal authorities in a circumscription. The image displayed three holly leaves (Latin: Ilex aquifolium). The leaves are considered to be canting, as the Lower German name of the tree is "Hülse", from which the name "Uelsen" is derived. On the seal the arms were augmented and had a mantling and the oval shield was topped by a count's coronet, as to be seen in the flag with arms.
