Shield Or, a sinister-facing goat-headed eagle Sable with claws and tongue Gules, surrounded by 19 6-point stars Argent.
Meaning:
The arms already appear on the oldest known seal of the city with prints since 1329. A 14th century secret seal just displays the star flanked by roses. In the 16th century the goat-headed eagle was placed under a chief with the star. Armourials since 1621 display a goat-headed eagle black with red togue in a silver shield, the inescutcheon is black and charged with a golden star. These arms are considered to be valid. The flag however contains a version, which was characterised as erroneous already by Klemens Stadler in 1967.
