details based on the presentations of Klaus Günther with kind permission
The municipality flags are shown mostly in banner form in Hesse.
Jörg Majewski, 29 Oct 2006
Shield parted per pale, at dexter Sable a sword Or in pale topped by a cross of the same, at sinister Argent fretty Sable, over all a bar Or.
Meaning:
The sword is symbolising St. Martin, the local patron saint. The cross is a canting element, for the suffix "-kirchen" (= church). The sinister half is taken from the arms of the Lords of Winter, local rulers from the 15th until the 18th century. The colours black and silver are those of the Counts of Battenberg, to which the territory historically belonged.
The arms were approved on 12 November 1982.
