Description of banner:
It is a blue - yellow - red vertical tricolour with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms without shield is placed into a blue bannerhead.

Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue field is a golden (= yellow) rampant lion, crowned, armed and tongued red. He is accompanied by three silver blossoms of medlar.
Meaning:
According to source the elements are taken from the arms of the counts of Geldern. They appeared on seals since the 16th century.

Banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungsprräsident Düsseldorf on 8 April 1971. The coat of arms including a mural crown had been already granted by the Prussian king in 1909. In 1957 the pattern was confirmed by minister of interior of Northrhine-Westphalia, but the mural crown then was abolished.
