Renaissance shield Azure two pieces of felloe Argent addorsed in pale.
Meaning:
Owners of the city changed frequently. It was acquired by the Benedictine Hersfeld Abbey in 786, the Counts of Hohnstein around 1510, the Archbishopric of Magdeburg in 1346, the Lords of Querfurt in 1390, the Counts of Hohnstein and the Counts of Mansfeld as a condominion in 1448, the Counts of Mansfeld alone in 1510, the Electorate of Sachsen in 1579 and Preußen (Prussia) in 1815. Former seals and arms displayed the family arms of the local rulers, e.g. the Lords of Querfurt and the Counts of Mansfeld. The current arms display the family arms of the Lords of Hake, who lived in Artern around 1300.

The banner probably is used without approval. The arms were approved in 1929 and confirmed in 1995 and 2019.
