Shield Argent a creel Sable.
Meaning:
The current pattern is known from a seal from 1600 with prints from 1624. The basket on the seal was interpreted as a creel in 1927. Michelau calls itself the "cradle of German basketry". Indeed basketry had the most important local business line in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The municipality is also seat of the "Deutsche Korbmuseum" (i.e. German Museum of Basketry) since 1934.
