Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, three pales Gules and a canton Azure.
Meaning:
The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Runkel, the oldest known rulers of the village. The family built in 1159 a castle near the village and granted city rights in 1315. The family became extinct in the late 14th century. The city used the arms in its seals at least since the 15th century.
The arms were designed in 1908 but not officially approved until 31 July 1974.
