Shield Argent, a 6-spokes wheel Sable, chief embattled Gules.
Meaning:
Ravenstein was founded in 1971 by merging of six municipalities. Name giver was a common in the centre of the municipalities. The former villages of Hüngheim and Merchingen belonged to the Barons of Berlichingen until 1806. The city of Ballenberg and the villages Erlenbach, Oberwittstadt and Unterwittstadt belonged to the Archbishopric of Mainz until 1802. The wheel connects elements of the wheels of Mainz (6-spokes, silver in red field) and Berlichingen (5-spokes, black in silver field)and is reminding on both former rulers. The embattled chief alludes to the fact that Ballenberg gained city rights in 1306 by King Albrecht.
