Coat of arms

Shield Argent a gate Gules masoned Sable with two embattled towers, in open door Azure a pair of two keys Or in saltire in a blue field, on central chief a facetted 6-point star Or.
Meaning:
According to source the current coat of arms is based upon the image shown in the most ancient main seal of the city. The colours red and silver and the pair of keys as well are symbolising the former Bishopric of Minden. The star is representing Bishop Volkwin von Schwalenberg, who granted the rights of a city to Lübbecke in 1279.

Former Coat of Arms

Shield Gules a pair of two keys Argent in saltire, on central chief a 6-point star Or.
Meaning:
According to Stadler 1972 the coat of arms was in use since 16th century. The colours red and silver and the pair of keys as well are symbolising the former Bishopric of Minden. The star is representing Bishop Volkwin von Schwalenberg, who granted the rights of a city to Lübbecke in 1279.
The former arms were granted officially by the Prussian king in 1908.
