Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent parted by a facetted Latin cross Sable, at sinister Vert parted by a facetted Latin cross Argent, in central base an oak leaf in counterchanged tinctures.
Meaning:
In 1938 Oberaltenbuch and Unteraltenbuch merged. The black cross is alluding to the fact that the Prozelten Commandery of the Teutonic Order owned estates in Unteraltenbuch since 1317 and had the high level cognisance since 1329. The commandrey was acquired by the Archbishopric of Mainz in 1484 and remained its possession until 1803. The silver cross is alluding to the Carthusian Grünau Monastery, local ruler in Oberaltenbuch since 1657. The monastery was founded in 1328 by Elisabeth of Hohenlohe and secularised in 1803. The oak leaf is symbolising the Spessart, a local forest. Unteraltenbuch had been seat of one of the six forest districts of the mounted foresters since the end of the 15th century.
