Description of coat of arms:
Shield Argent, a throughout cross Sable, over all a kettle-hook Gules.
Meaning:
The arms were adopted in 1978. The silver field symbolises the grey monolith in the village of Vehrte, named Süntelstein. The silver and black are also taken from the arms of Osnabrück, and the cross is alluding to the Bishops of Osnabrück, the former rulers. The four arms of the cross are also symbolising the four villages in the municipality: Belm proper, Haltern, Icker and Vehrte. The kettle-hook, the main symbol in the arms, is reminding on the medieval family Meier zu Belm.
