Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a beaver rampant Argent tailed Sable over a pair of bendlets Argent and a pair of bendlets sinister Argent crossed per saltire.
Meaning:
The beaver (German: Biber) is a canting element, the city's name is derived from Biberahe (or Biberwasser, = beaver-water). The lower part of the arms is symbolising the importance of the railway lines in the late 19th century. The colours are those of the Hersfeld Abbey, which ruled the area for many centuries. The design of the beaver slightly changed. At least until 1967 the beaver had been passant with a white tail.
In 1935 Bebra gained city rights. As no historical arms were known, the new arms were designed and approved in 1930.
