Chiemsee Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale of Argent and Azure two water-lily leaves in counterchanged tinctures intertwined by their stems, base Or charged with an embowed fish Azure.
Meaning:
Chiemsee is the smallest municipality of Bayern by number of inhabitants (230), and by area (2.57 kmē) only Buckendorf is smaller. In 782 Duke Tassilo III of Bayern founded the Herrenchiemsee Monastery and the Frauenchiemsee Nunnery on an island in the namesake lake. The intertwined leaves in counterchanged tinctures display the old arms of the Benedictine Frauenchiemsee Nunnery, located on Frauenwörth Island. Frauenchiemsee is the biggest settlement core of the municipality, consisting of Frauenchiemsee, Herrenchiemsee and Krautinsel. The fish is alluding to fishery, an important business line even today. The fish is also symbolising the location of the municipality within the namesake lake.
