Meaning:
Lychen was established as a moated castle by the Margraves of Brandenburg, where in 1248 a walled city was added. In 1304 the city gained the right to run a mint and a low level court. The city became a possession of the Dukes of Mecklenburg from 1317 until 1440. The current pattern is in use since 1904 and based on a city seal from the 14th century. The eagle is that one of the Margraviate of Brandenburg, castle and base wavy are alluding to the location between local lakes. The shape of the towers advises a wooden castle. The stars are mere decorating ornaments.
