Hapag Lloyd banner
It is an orange banner. The top quarter of total height is blue. At the bottom edge is a blue company logo with a black inscription "Hapag-Lloyd".
Source: I spotted this flag on 21 April 2007 at Alster lake in Hamburg.

Hapag-Lloyd A.G., Hamburg - three vertical stripes of blue, orange and white, proportioned c. 1:1:6; in fly the firm's logo in blue.

White with blue and red vertical bands at the hoist and the logo (reminding two arrows) horizontally centered and vertically shifted to the bottom. This looks very unbalanced to me. The above image is based on the photograph Dov Gutterman found, which had a furled upper fly. Perhaps there is something in that area?

Your assumption is correct, the flag does not look exactly right. Check out their logo in their website.
M. Moldenhauer, 10 Feb 2000
The flag shown by Jorge does exist although the portrayal is not quite correct. The red band should be orange and the emblem positioned higher [see below: a photo taken in 1996]. That this flag still exists is confirmed from the company website showing a photo of the funnel as the flag can just be made out as well. The second flag provided by M. Moldenhauer obviously also exists but according to Josef Nüsse it refers to the subsidiary Hapag-Lloyd Container Linie GmbH though I suspect that it is a shore flag with the small emblem and lettering and their positioning being pointless at sea. Hapag-Lloyd A.G. was formed in 1990 as a merger of Hamburg-Amerika Linie and
Norddeutscher Lloyd and originally the livery consisted of the funnel of Hamburg-Amerika and the flag of Norddeutscher Lloyd.

In my Orkney report I mentioned that one of the liners visiting Kirkwall when I was there belonged to the Hapag-Lloyd line (it was the "Europa").
On the FOTW-pages we show a possible house flag for Hapag-Lloyd but say that it doesn't look right. Hapag-Lloyd's own site, to which we refer, shows a flag which looks quite different. The flag I saw on the launches bringing tourists ashore was in these colours but not of this design. There is an unofficial, but apparently reliable, site, which shows the modern Hapag-Lloyd flag and it is this flag which I saw in Orkney. On this site is written: "Hapag-Lloyd AG was created on 1 Sep 1970 as a result of the merger of the shipping lines Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft(Hamburg-America Line or Hapag), based in Hamburg, and Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL), based in Bremen. At that time, these companies, founded in 1847 and 1857 respectively, had been active in ocean shipping for over a hundred years. Hapag-Lloyd celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1997. In the same year TUI Group (former Preussag) acquired a controlling stake in Hapag-Lloyd. In 2005 Hapag-Lloyd became one of the world's fifth-largest container shipping company, following the acquistion of CP Ships."

Most publications about the HAPAG flag didn't show the rope at the anchor. Here is a detailed image of the center.

Transport & Service GmbH & Co. - White with two narrow horizontal stripes at the bottom in blue and orange. The logo is centered on the white and consists of the letters 'T' and 'S' united by a wavy line. I am not sure that the logo is like I depicted it. It was in the original image, but the flag there was artistically rendered, and it could have caused distortions in the logo.

Hamburg based company has a celestial blue flag with a white logo in the upper fly. The logo shows three combined white circles and two bars forming "dog".

Hamburg based company has a white flag divided by a thin blue line. In the upper hoist corner is the logo of Norddeutscher Lloyd. In the lower fly corner are two blue trapeziums forming a "K".
