The flag of canton of Francisco de Orellana (capital: Puerto
Francisco de Orellana) is horizontally divided green-black with a
yellow triangle at the hoist. In the flag of administrative use,
at the center of the hoist is the cantonal Coat of Arms.

The flag of Francisco de Orellana canton is composed of three stripes.
The
first stripe, located at the left in a triangular shape, is yellow.
It is
joined by two lateral stripes, the upper green and the lower black.
Each
color has a meaning for the Orellana population.
Yellow represents the
resources of the soil of the canton.
Black represents the resource in oil of
the underground of the Ecuadorian Amazonian basin, which is a source of progress
for the country.
Green reflects the great plant biodiversity, the resources
of the environment, in forest and agriculture and in the Amazonian soil, and the
aspiration to better days.
The coat of arms is composed of an elliptic
field surrounded by the flag of the canton. It is divided in four parts by two
crossed spears that represent the weapon used by the valiant natives for the
defense of the local resources and of the soil of the Amazonian region.
In
the lower part is shown a beautiful panorama of Amazonian basin with a mountain
background representing the eastern cordillera that separates us from the sierra
and where several rivers watering the area have their source. The river
represents river Napo, which waters most Amazonian basin and is the main
tributary of river Amazon. The boat represents river transport, commerce and
progress.
In the lateral left side is shown an Amazonian woman prepared to
fight, as a symbol of the heroic defense of the place. The cornucopia includes
the diversity of fruits found in the region. It also represents cattle-breeding,
since Amazonian basin is an area of progress to develop that kind of resources.
In the lateral right side is shown an oil derrick, a tank and an pipeline,
highlighting that Francisco de Orellana is the center of operations for the oil
companies exploring the resources of Ecuador.
In the upper part are an open
book and a quill representing development and spread of knowledge in the whole
region. There is also a flaming torch recalling that studying is the guide to
achievement.
On the flanks, in the upper parts of the flags are an anchor and
a rifle, representing the Navy and the Army, recalling that the arms forces
protect the resources of Ecuador and defend the homeland.
The shield is
surmounted by a Spanish helmet symbolizing the great explorer Francisco de
Orellana, an example of tenacity and constancy.
