Jaume was born in Reus, Catalonia, and received his education there. After his schooling, he worked as a Notary´s Officer for a local notary office in Reus. After 1990, he also started a small construction business, while still working full time at the Notary. He takes great pride in successfully constructing dozens of homes during his dual career. His interest in illustrating dates back to his childhood, but didn't develop until he was an adult.
He started working for Flags of the World in 1995, first drawing in bitmap format with Adobe PhotoShop, then working mainly in gif format, but after a year or two, he moved on to the vector system in Corel, at first using Corel 5 and moving up from there.
Jaume´s artistic talents are not just limited to drawing flags. Last year he used his graphic abilities to produce a 62 page comic book in PDF format, which he has shared with friends who were interested.
Strangely enough Jaume´s favorite illustrations and designs of flags located on the Flags of the World database were by other graphic artists, not himself. For example, he said he very much admired the design of the flag of the Donets'ka oblast', a region of the Ukraine (which was drawn by Mello Luchtenberg and Valery M. Napytkin); the flag of Estelada, Catalonia, (drawn by Jorge Candeias) had special appeal to him; and the flag of Andorra (drawn by Carlos Esparza and António Martins-Tuválkin) was at the top of his list of favorites.
Another flag design he liked was the proposed flag design for Australia designed by Harold Scruby of Ausflag in 1991.

Favorite Illustrations:

Jaume has drawn over 3462 illustrations of flags which are now used on Flags of the World. These are six of his favorite German renditions, including one Nazi flag. He wished to add he is not a supporter of the Nazi ideology.

  • Over the years Jaume has produced several flags websites, but due to lack of time they are no longer being maintained. Still online is his Historical Flags.
  • Jaume has advised several regional governments on their flags. Cajamarca, Peru, granted the title of "Honorary Son of the City" for his work on the Cajamarca Flag.
  • He is currently editing Flag Report, which has now published 76 issues and still going strong.
