I was born in 1970 and grew up in Orenburg, Russia. Being a seven year old boy in 1977, I watched the World Ice-Hockey Championship and was impressed by
all the different national flags. Of course, I had to reconstruct the flags of
the main hockey teams: USA, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, and then hung them out under my table. Since we had only a black
and white TV set, I made many mistakes (for example, I drew a green maple leaf for Canada).
By the time of the next world championship I was eight years old and considered myself a "great vex-expert" with a full set of participant countries' flags. That was the year I started my vex-archives and haven't stopped since then.
Near the end of 1990s I became a member of the FOTW mailing list. In the beginning I was interested in flags
from all over the world, but later came to understand that the world is too big. Now my main vexillological interests are all flags of Russia and its neighboring countries.
In 2001, I started my own Russian website called "Vexillographia". It is now the official webpage of the Russian Center of Vexillology and Heraldry (RCVH). It contains more than 20,000 files.
I have designed several dozen flags for various Russian and Ukrainian municipalities, including the Asekeevo District, the Perevolotsk District, the Pervomaysky District, the Abdulino District, the Sol-Iletsk District, Sol-Iletsk city, the Tobolsk rural commune, and the Chernootozhsky rural commune.
