The municipality of Dalías (3,972 inhabitants in 2013; 14,400 ha; municipal website) is located in the centre of the Campo de Dalías plain, between the sea and the Gádor mountains, 40 km west of Almería.
The former municipality of Dalías was split into two new municiplaities, Dalías and El Ejido, by Royal Decree No. 2,251, adopted on 30 July 1982 and published on 11 September 1982 in the Spanish official gazette, No. 218, p. 24,643 (text). The separation followed the transfer of the capital of the former municipality of Dalías from Dalías to El Ejido, approved on 8 May 1981 by the Government of Andalusia. An Information Commission for Territorial Reorganization was set up on 25 May 1981; the Commission validated the proposal tabled by the Villagers' Association of separation of the villages of Dalías and Celín from El Ejido. The municipality initiated the separation process on 2 April 1982, the proposal of separation being reaffirmed on 26 May 1982 and approved by the Almería Provincial Council.

Coat of arms: Gules a pre-Roman boat sailing on waves argent and azure cantonned dexter by a yoke and a bundle of arrows all or.
The shield is surrounded by a scroll or inscribed with "CIUDAD DE
DALÍAS" in letters gules. The ship has a sail argent and a mast sable topped with a pennant gules.
The boat represents the legend of the Queen of Halías, founder of the town, who disembarked in Balerma and followed a watercourse up to the source of Celín.
