Klaus-Michael Schneider, 24 October 2012The flag and arms of Suflí, adopted on 28 November 1993 by the Municipal Council and revised on 20 December 1996, as suggested on 8 June 1996 by the Royal Academy of Cordóba, are prescribed by Decree No. 60, adopted on 18 February 1997 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 11 March 1997 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 30, p. 2,888 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular panel in proportions 1:2, crossed by a green diagonal stripe in height 1/5 of the flag's height, running from upper hoist to lower fly. In the center is placed a white disk outlined in black charged with a green mount and a white village.
Coat of arms: Argent a mount vert charged with a village argent (made of ten houses arranged in three fesses - 2, 3 and 5) on waves argent and azure in chief an eagle sable crown or langued and membered gules. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown closed.
The geographical location of the village and the meaning of its name (The Lower) form the main nucleus of the coat of arms. The waves representsthe river, located at the foot of a schematized mountain. The houses represent the white-painted houses of the village, placed in front of a green mountain representing the local agriculture. The historic aspects of the village are shown by the eagle, which recalls Alonso Fernández de Córdoba, aka the Eagle, lord of Suflí at the time of the Kingdom of Córdoba.
