The municipality of El Hornillo (355 inhabitants in 2010; 2,422 ha; municipal website) is located in the south of Ávila Province, 90 km of Ávila.
El Hornillo is located on the southern slope of the Sierra de Gredos;
the highest point of the municipal territory, which is mostly included
in the Sierra de Gredos Regional Park, is Pico de la Mira (2,343 m).
Among its natural sites, the most famous is Charco Verde (Green
Pond), a stone basin of 8 m in depth, filled by the green water
falling down from a 15-m high waterfall.
El Hornillo appeared in the 13th century, when ávila belonged to the
Castilian Extremadura, a region made of 419 villages. Later on, it
belonged to Toledo Province; El Hornillo was granted the title of villa in 1752.

The flag and arms of El Hornillo are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 29 September 2001 by the Municipal Council, signed on 3 October 2001 by the Mayor, and published on 17 October 2001 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 202, p. 15,004 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag with proportions 2:3, made of a red panel with a white pillory at 1/3 of the flag's width.
Coat of arms: Gules over waves argent and azure a one-arched bridge argent surmounted by a pillory argent, chaussé argent dexter a cherry tree eradicated vert sinister a chestnut tree eradicated of the same. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
