The municipality of Aceuchal (5,437 inhabitants in 2017; 6,310 ha; <1 HREF="http://www.aceuchal.com/">municipal website) is located 60 km south-east of Badajoz and 10 km south-east of Almendralejo.

Aceuchal was founded in the 14th century by King Alfonso XI. The name of the town refers to a place covered with wild olive trees (acebuches). The tradition says that a "very good fountain" and an older settlement were united to the new foundation. Garlic is a most significant crop in Aceuchal. A bronze statue representing an ajero (garlic farmer), designed by Fulgencio León Manchego, was erected in 1985.

Flag of Aceuchal

The flag and "rehabilitated" arms of Aceuchal, adopted on 5 February 2004 by the Municipal Council and validated on 9 November 2004 by the Assessing Council of Honors and Distinctions of the Government of Extremadura, are prescribed by an Order issued on 15 November 2004 by the Government of Extremadura and published on 4 December 2004 in the official gazette of Extremadura, No. 141, pp. 14,544-14,54 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3. Vertically divided, one third at hoist white, two thirds at fly, green. Charged in the center with the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Argent a wild olive tree fructed proper accosted sinister by a goat gules horned sable. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
