The municipality of Castildelgado (59 inhabitants in 2009; 495 ha; municipal website) is located 60 km of Burgos.
Castildelgado was originally named Villipún (10th century) / Villa de Pun; some four centuries ago, Viscount de Gil Delgado renamed the village Castildelgado (Delgado's Citadel). The citadel was indeed a main element of the defence line against the Muslim states and the other, rival Christian states.
