The municipality of Cubillo del Campo (99 inhabitants in 2014; 1,406 ha; municipal website) is located in the south of the Province of Burgos, 25 km of Burgos.
Cubillo del Campo was established in the 10th-11th century in the
terra de nadie, the deserted buffer zone that then separated the
Christian and Moorish states. The limestone quarries of Cubillo
supplied most of the stones used to erect the Romanesque San Quirce
abbey (12th century), the Burgos cathedral (13th century) and other
monuments of the town, such as the Santa María Arch and the Casa del
Cordón.
On 19 August 2007, a 60 m-long sword was inaugurated in Cubillo; this
is the longest representation of Tizona, one of the swords owned
by El Cid Campeador.
